Stage Rush TV: Episode 15
by Jesse North
Talking points:
- Tony nominee Stephen Kunken on the one-two punch of his Tony nomination and Enron closing
- Promises, Promises surprises
- The Metal Children is thought provoking (and damn creepy)
- Broadway grosses
What did you think of Stephen’s take on his wild Tony nomination day, Rushers? Did you enjoy Promises, Promises as much as I did? Did you see an understudy for Kristin Chenoweth? Did The Metal Children leave you sleeping at night with one eye open like I’m currently doing? Leave it all in the comments!

I saw Kristin Chenoweth in Promises, Promises and I have to say that even though she is too old for the part, she was really good. It was nice to see her do something different for a change. I wasn’t too crazy about the show itself. It was enjoyable, but just not memorable. What did you think of Sean Hayes? I really liked him, even if he doesn’t have a good singing voice.
That scene in The Metal Children did freak me out, especially since I thought intermission was going to happen right before it. But I loved the play.
Good point, Kristen probably is too old for the role. Didn’t think of that. You know, I liked Sean’s singing! I recognize it’s not the greatest, not Raul Esparza’s, but I liked it! He had some nice vibrato. Maybe too much at time, but I liked it.
